Lorne John “Gump” Worsley (May 14, 1929 – January 26, 2007) was a professional ice hockey goaltender. Known as one of the shortest of all-time at 5-foot-7, he played for three teams over the course of his NHL career but saw most of his success as a member of the Montreal Canadiens, where he won two Vezina Trophies and four Stanley Cups. He also played for the New York Rangers and Minnesota North Stars.
Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, ‘Gump’ was given his nickname because friends thought he looked like comic-strip character Andy Gump. He passed away in 2007 at the young age of 77.
