Michael James Grier (born January 5, 1975) is an American hockey executive and former professional ice hockey winger who is currently the general manager (GM) of the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League (NHL). He also played for four teams in the NHL – the Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, and Sharks. Primarily a checking forward, he played 1,060 NHL games over 14 NHL seasons. Grier was the first African-American player in the history of the NHL to exclusively train in his home country, the United States and then became the first African-American GM in 2022 when he was hired by the Sharks.
