Sean Bentivoglio (born October 16, 1985) is a former Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL with the New York Islanders during the 2008-2009 season. Undrafted at the NHL level, Bentivoglio committed to Niagara University of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for four years. He served as an alternate captain in his third year before being promoted to the team’s captaincy, leading up to an invitation to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL). He recorded nine points in 13 playoff games during his first taste of hockey at a professional level.
Following the Bruins’ elimination in the AHL Playoffs, Bentivoglio signed a three-year contract with the Islanders organization. He registered nine goals and 32 points in his first full year in the AHL and followed it up with a 13-goal season the following year, earning a one-game stint with New York. In his sole game in the NHL, Bentivoglio recorded no points, two penalty minutes and an even rating. He completed one more year with the Hartford Wolf Pack and put up career numbers, but failed to earn interest from an NHL club.
After one year in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) with the Augsburger Panther, Bentivoglio signed with Asiago of the Italian top league. He remained with the club for five seasons, capturing two Italian Championships, two Italian Cup Championships and a scoring title in 2013. In 2016, Bentivoglio departed from Italy to sign with the Cardiff Devils of the British Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). He went on to win two EIHL Championships, two EIHL Conference Championships and two EIHL Playoff Champion before announcing his retirement in March of 2020.
