Thomas Dundon (born September 5, 1971) is an American businessman, specializing in financial services and entertainment. He is chairman and managing partner of Dundon Capital Partners in Dallas, Texas, and is now sole owner and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League and was chairman of the now-defunct Alliance of American Football.
Hurricanes Under Ownership
In Jan. 2018, Dundon purchased the Carolina Hurricanes and operating control of PNC Arena for $420 million, exactly what it was valued by Forbes. Dundon owns 61 percent of the team, while outgoing owner Peter Karmanos still holds the remainder. There’s an option for Dundon to buy the rest within three years. Forbes valued the team at $440 million in 2020.
The Hurricanes have made the postseason in every full season of Dundon’s ownership, going all the way to the Eastern Conference Final in his first season as owner. That was their first playoff appearance since falling the Eastern Conference Final in 2009.
