Troy Loney (born September 21, 1963) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player, having played his final year in the NHL split between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders during the 1994-95 season. Drafted 52nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1982 Entry Draft, Loney split parts of his first four seasons with the Penguins and their AHL affiliate Baltimore Skipjacks before becoming an NHL regular in the 1987-88 season. Primarily used in a bottom-six role, he aided the Penguins franchise to two Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992 with his physical edge, where he’d rack up a career total of 1,091 penalty minutes in 624 career games.
In the 1993 Expansion Draft, Loney was selected by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and named the franchise’s first-ever captain. His run with the Mighty Ducks would only last one season, as he amassed 19 points (13 goals, 6 assists) in 62 games. The lockout-shortened 1994-95 season was split between the Rangers and Islanders before he announced his retirement from hockey.
