The Carolina Hurricanes have signed goaltender Eddie Lack to a two-year contract extension worth $5.5 million, the team announced on Saturday. The team also disclosed that the deal has Lack making $2.5 million in the deal’s first year and $3 million in the second, with Lack a pending unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2018.
Lack currently has one year remaining on a deal that carries an AAV of $1.15 million. That deal was signed with the Vancouver Canucks, who traded Lack to the ‘Canes back in June.
With just one year remaining on Cam Ward’s monster deal that carries an AAV of $6.3 million, it’s clear that the team is looking to the future and the future of the Carolina net is Lack.
Last season Lack played 41 games for Vancouver, despite the presence of Ryan Miller, posting a .921 save percentage.
