Every so often, with the revamped fantasy hockey coverage at The Hockey Writers, we’ll be curating a short list of important articles from around the web – including those from our very own fantasy writers.
The short list is put together to help inform fantasy owners of the whispers from around the league that could help them gain an upper hand in their respective leagues. With that in mind, here’s a look at today’s top stories.
1. Yahoo Fantasy Hockey: Early goaltender panic in the NHL (Dobber Hockey)
Early injuries and underperforming tenders have the heart rates of fantasy owners skyrocketing as they search for respectable replacements. Bobrovksy and Rask to the disappointing start of Lehner’s tenure in Buffalo, it won’t be easy finding ways to fill these holes, but Dobber Hockey has ways of playing four particular goalies – and how to do it properly.
And hey, if that doesn’t help they also throw you a few bones when it comes to who to look for on your fantasy league waiver wire.
2. Fantasy Hockey Mailbag: Predicting This Season’s Tarasenko (Larry Fisher at The Hockey Writers)
In the latest edition of his fantasy column, THW’s own Larry Fisher looks to answer questions sent in by readers via email, Twitter and Facebook. Answering inquiries on who to drop and how to upgrade particular positions, Fisher’s column is a weekly go-to for readers at THW.
If that isn’t enough, he likes to take on some of the toughest questions to face fantasy hockey. In this edition, Fisher has his say on who this year’s Vladimir Tarasenko will be for fantasy owners.
3. Fantasy Hockey: Sell-high on David Krejci (Dave Holcomb at Today’s Slapshot)
Most of us raised our eyebrows when the Boston Bruins started making their offseason moves. Which direction is this team headed? Are they rebuilding or simply reloading? Regardless, their season is heading down the track that most thought it would and their fantasy values aren’t where owners hoped they would be.
While Krejci can still be a valuable fantasy asset – as we’re seeing so far this season – Holcomb suggests that the time is now if you’re a fantasy owner looking to move the 29-year-old forward.
4. Detroit Red Wings Fantasy Hockey: Western Canada Road Trip (Tony Wolak at The Hockey Writers)
Look for Tony Wolak to provide insight to fantasy options for the Red Wings throughout the season. While he’ll focus mostly on players on a game-to-game basis, Wolak provides owners with a look at how particular players will perform against daily opponents.
“For the late-night lineups, Zetterberg, Larkin, Nyquist, Abdelkader, Helm, Green and Pulkkinen could be solid plays. Edmonton and Washington face-off in Edmonton and the Hurricanes visit the Kings in the other games. The Red Wings-Flames matchup figures to be the highest scoring,” writes Wolak.
Looking closely at the Wings western-Canadian road trip, this article provides owners with a full glance at the week ahead for Detroit’s possible fantasy value.
