The Flames, after a surprise run during the 2014-15 campaign that saw them make the postseason and advance to the conference semi-finals, failed to live up to those expectations this season and finished with an overall record of 35-40-7. They finished fifth in the Pacific Division and 30th overall in goals-against.
Hartley has coached the Flames for four seasons, steadily improving their win percentage prior to this season. He won the Jack Adams award last season, which is awarded to the coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team’s success.
Calgary general manager Brad Treliving will hold a press conference at noon today to discuss the firing and new direction of the team.
