Some pretty significant news came down the Calgary Flames pipeline on Wednesday morning when it was revealed that defenseman T.J. Brodie will miss anywhere from three to six weeks with a broken hand.
The significance of the injury was revealed by Calgary general manager Brad Treliving during an appearance with the Calgary media. No surgery was needed for the hand, but the key member of the team’s defensive unit is listed as week-to-week.

Treliving says the recovery time for Brodie ranges between 3 and 6 weeks. Won't be able to pinpoint it precisely for a few days. #Flames

The injury occurred during Calgary’s preseason contest against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.
The Flames are, obviously, hoping that Brodie’s time frame is more towards the three week side of things as opposed to the six week max. No matter what, it appears Brodie is set to miss the start of the regular season, but should only miss a few games if he returns at the earliest possible moment.
Brodie is expected to play a major role for a Flames team that is hoping to take the next step after a surprising 2014-15 campaign that saw them not only make the playoffs, but also defeat the Vancouver Canucks in the opening round.
With the 25-year old out of action, Calgary’s newest addition to the blue line, Dougie Hamilton, is expected to be relied on even more than before.
