Minnesota Wild defensive prospect Gustav Olofsson will have his season ended by shoulder surgery for the second straight season, reports Michael Russo of the Star Tribune.
The 21-year-old was injured in his first game with the Iowa Wild of the AHL last season and that derailed his entire 20-year-old season. This year, he made it most of the way, including getting a shot at his NHL debut.
He finished with two NHL games and 52 logged in Iowa, over which he put up two goals and 17 points. Last season was a lost developmental year. This year, the injury — to a different shoulder — isn’t ideal, but he’s managed to get in a full professional season for the first time. “So at least he got about 80 percent of the season this time,” general manager Chuck Fletcher told Russo.
Fletcher says that the team expects Olofsson to be healthy and ready to go by the time training camp comes around in the fall. That may cast some doubt on his availability for development camp, which typically takes place in July, something he may or may not have taken part in in the first place.
