Montreal Canadiens prospect Martin Reway has had some troubles at HC Sparta Praha this season.
Following criticism of his play not being very team oriented and then refusing to sign a contract extension, he was demoted despite having scored five goals and 10 assists in 14 games in the Czech League. He also put up two goals and two assists in four CHL games for Sparta.
According to multiple sources, including Swiss Hockey News, Reway had previously informed Sparta the “he did not want to play for Sparta anymore and asked for a trade.”
Rumors circulated immediately following the demotion that he was working on a transfer to the KHL.
That never materialized, but HC Fribourg-Gottéron’s team manager Christian Dubé has told Frank Stettler of Freiburger Nachrichten that Reway is going to be joining Fribourg-Gottéron in the Swiss National League A (NLA) as soon as this Friday when they face SC Bern.

The transfer is good news for Canadiens fans, as it means that the diminutive 20-year-old forward with high upside will continue to develop in top tier European leagues instead of being pushed down into the lower levels of the Czech system.
