Apparently 60 minutes of hockey was not enough for all three games on the NHL schedule Wednesday night. Each game needed some extra time and one even needed more than that and ended in a shootout. Let’s get to it.
Parenteau’s Shootout Goal Lifts Habs Past Sabres
What is the best way to end a losing streak in the NHL? Play the Sabres. Alright so that isn’t very fair to say, but Montreal, after losing three out of four, traveled to western New York to take on the struggling Sabres and got the results they were looking for. It took a bit longer then they hoped, but they escaped with a shootout win.
Parenteau broke a scoreless tie right at the beginning of the third period with his third goal of the season :19 in. The Sabres would answer a few minutes later when Drew Stafford beat Dustin Tokarski to tie the game at one. It was a very even contest with both teams registering the same amount of shots and the same amount of luck getting any of the shots to go in.

Brassard’s 5th in Overtime Beats Red Wings
The New York Rangers played host to the Detroit Red Wings on what the networks have dubbed “Rivalry Wednesday”. It took some free hockey to declare the winner, and thanks to Derick Brassard the Rangers came out on top 4-3.
Martin St. Louis scored another goal for the Rangers and now has four points in his last two games. Henrik Lundqvist turned away 25-0f-28 shots securing his sixth win of the season.

Islanders Take Down Ducks in Nightcap
The Islanders were a bit lucky on Wednesday night in Anaheim, as Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry called in sick with the flu and were not in the lineup. Even with that, the Islanders needed some extra time to leave with the victory.
Islanders captain John Tavares netted two including the game-winning goal in overtime. Jaroslav Halak evened out his record at 4-4-0 after facing 34 shots and stopping 32. On the other side of the ice, Jason LaBarbera faced 36 advances by the Isles.
