The New York Islanders have signed Penn State goaltender Eamon McAdam to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
McAdam finished his third season with Penn State by posting a 13-8-1 record with a .913 save percentage. He was also named a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, honoring collegiate hockey’s best goaltender.
Penn State had their season ended last weekend in the Hockey East tournament, but the team showed a lot of pride in where they’ve brought a program that wasn’t a serious contender not too long ago. They’ve become a strong program and McAdam was a big part of that. He was the first-ever Nittany Lion to be draft by a NHL franchise.
The 6-foot-3 Perkasie, Pennsylvania-native was a 3rd round draft pick of the Islanders in the 2013 draft, coming out of the USHL’s Waterloo Blackhawks.

“We are very proud of Eamon and his growth as a goaltender and a teammate,” said Penn State coach Guy Gadowsky. “He had a tremendous season and we will surely miss him, but we are very excited to watch his success with the Islanders. Eamon is also an excellent student and has assured us he will graduate. I know Eamon loves Penn State and he will always be a big part of our hockey program and the university.
The Islanders announced via release that McAdam will spend the rest of the season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL on an amateur tryout contract (ATO). His ELC will begin next season.
