McGinn had a strong season last year as he scored a career-high 22 goals between the Buffalo Sabres and the Anaheim Ducks. He could be one of the unsung free agent signings this offseason.
What Jamie McGinn Means to Arizona
The deal will help a young group of Coyotes’ forwards that are flashy and full of scoring potential. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward will give some size and muscle to the forward unit that boasts some great young scorers like Max Domi, Anthony Duclair and others.
The Fergus, Ontario native was drafted 36th overall by the San Jose Sharks, and has been a sought-after player, despite being traded three times. He was dealt at the 2012 trade deadline to the Colorado Avalanche, who then sent him to Buffalo as a part of the deal that sent him and Ryan O’Reilly to the Sabres for Nikita Zadarov, Mikhail Grigorenko, prospect J.T. Compher and the 31st pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
McGinn proved to be a bright spot on a Buffalo team that is still going through growing pains as he scored 14 goals before Anaheim acquired him for a conditional third-round pick. He kept on scoring goals despite being in the bottom six as McGinn totaled eight goals in 21 regular season games or the Ducks.

Anaheim struggled to score goals in its stunning first-round exit to the Nashville Predators, as the team averaged fewer than three goals a game. However, McGinn did have two markers in the seven-game series.
Sabres fans held out hold that McGinn would return to the Queen City, but Arizona came up with the power forward.
The signing is a good value at just over $3 million against the cap and he’s still young enough at age 27 to give some productive years for the Coyotes.
