Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment, the NHL announced on Thursday.
The straw that broke the camel’s back here was a dive over the stick of Tampa Bay’s Nikita Nesterov in a December 22 game. Hansen was driving into the offensive zone on the penalty kill and instead of going for the puck, dove when he was met with Nesterov’s stick.
Nesterov was handed an interference penalty and Hansen was given two minutes for embellishing.
As with any instance where a player is fined for the first time in a season, it’s the player’s second infraction.
The first instance this season came, according to the league, on November 4 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. There’s no embellishing penalty on the books for Hansen in that game, but the forward did draw a pair of penalties in the match.
If Hansen gets leveled with another diving infraction the fine will increase to $3,000.
