The Winnipeg Jets have come to terms on a two-year deal for defenseman Paul Postma with an AAV of $887,500, according to the team, who are one of a handful of teams choosing to disclose contract terms publicly.
The 26-year-old native of Red Deer, Alberta played a career-high 42 games last season, scoring two goals and four assists for the Jets. Career-wide, he’s a veteran of 100 games, all played in a Jets uniform, with the exception of a single game in the 2010-11 season when he played under the franchise’s former moniker, the Atlanta Thrashers.
He was a 2007 7th round pick for the Atlanta Thrashers.

Postma drove decent possession for the Jets last season, posting a score-adjusted CF%Rel of 2.1% with a ZSO%Rel of 4.98%, a Wins Above Replacement (WAR) of 1.77, and a dCorsi of 48.84.
The Jets will again have a deep blue line and Postma will again be on the cusp of the third pairing. In top pairings the team likely has Toby Enstrom, Dustin Byfuglien, Tyler Myers, Mark Stuart, Jacob Trouba, and possibly Grant Clitsome or Adam Pardy. That leaves a healthy cache of guys fighting for NHL time, including Jay Harrison, Ben Chiarot, and Postma.
The Jets have a solid D group again and if any of the fringe guys are able to step into a bigger role (or if Trouba really becomes a top guy) the team may have some great assets to move at the trade deadline.
