Coveted pending free agent Jimmy Vesey is officially a free agent Monday. But the team that owns his negotiating rights is getting one last stab at making a deal happen before there are 29 other teams allowed to talk with Vesey. The Buffalo Sabres are having last-minute negotiations with the 23-year-old, according to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug.
There’s a new rumor about the Hobey Baker winner every few hours, having been connected recently with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers and others.
However, Vesey’s agent Peter Fish told Puck Daddy’s Josh Cooper that the Sabres have “always been a team that has interested” Vesey.
The Harvard graduate can basically have his pick of any team in the league, and there are many reasons a young team like Buffalo could make sense for him. No matter where he lands, the situation should gain clarity — if it’s not fully resolved — in the coming week.
