Despite having his rights dealt from the Nashville Predators to the Buffalo Sabres, Jimmy Vesey remains undeterred in his decision to test free agency, according to his agent.
“Jimmy’s intent at this time has not changed and is prepared to become a free agent on August 15,” said his agent according to Nick Filipowski of WKBW. Vesey has maintained that he’d like to become a free agent since publicly deciding that he would not sign with Nashville after the end of his senior season at Harvard.
Vesey’s rights were acquired by the Sabres Monday in a trade that sent a 2016 3rd round draft pick to Music City. While this statement comes before the Sabres are able to make their pitch to Vesey and his agent, who also represents Jack Eichel, it isn’t surprising.

Speculation has long been that Vesey could land with his hometown Boston Bruins or be allured by the family connections with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where his father is a scout and his brother is an un-signed prospect.
The 2016 Hobey Baker winner is set to become a free agent on August 15, at which point every team in the league can offer him what is essentially the same entry-level contract. Vesey will be able to determine his own fate at that time.
