The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forward Joakim Nordstrom to a one-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday.
The two-way deal is worth $605,000 at the NHL level, according to Sportnet’s Chris Johnston. This will be Nordstrom’s first deal following his NHL entry-level contract.
The 23-year-old Swede posted three assists and no goals through 38 games last season, also making an appearance in three games during Chicago’s postseason run to winning the Stanley Cup. He did not register a point in the postseason.
He also posted nine goals and seven assists for AHL Rockford through 23 games.
He’s played a total of 54 regular season matches and 10 postseason games in his career.

His signing will provide organizational depth for the cap-strapped team. Nordstrom has an ability to play a depth role, but has yet to perform in a way that demands NHL time either at the NHL or AHL level. He’s a solid depth player, but isn’t a game breaker in the bottom six the way a player like Marcus Kruger is.
