The Arizona Coyotes have signed enforcer John Scott to a one-year, one-way contract at the league minimum of $575K, according to TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie.
Scott scored a career-high three goals last season in 38 games with the San Jose Sharks. Through seven years in the NHL he’s played 274 games, scoring five goals and five assists with 517 penalty minutes.
While he hasn’t averaged over eight minutes a game since 2010, he does crack wise quite well though. Knowing he wasn’t returning to San Jose he called out teammates that he plans on fighting next year when he returns to SAP Center.
Scott isn’t exactly a possession driver with a score-adjusted -6.8% CF%Rel. The Coyotes likely believe that Scott can help offer some protection to their their budding young stars, including Dylan Strome, Max Domi, Anthony Duclair, Brendan Perlini, and others. Maybe Chris Pronger’s contract could protect them should Scott fail.
