After missing three games with “flu-like symptoms,” New York Islanders captain John Tavares is set to return to the ice on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.
The team has sorely missed him, going 1-1-1 in his absence against teams that they should be beating, including a win and an overtime loss against the New Jersey Devils and a loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
Tavares has five goals and six assists through the season’s first 10 games, production the team could have used when they scored just five goals while he was out. The Isles have been struggling closing out teams as it is and losing an all-situation all-star like Tavares took its toll on the standings.
