The Boston Bruins have placed back-up netminder Jonas Gustavsson on injured reserve, the team announced Monday. In his place they have recalled 22-year-old Malcolm Subban from the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
The recall may be short though. “We placed Jonas on injured reserve as we await his final test results,” general manager Don Sweeney said. “Pending those final test results, he will be cleared for full participation by our medical staff.”
Gustavsson was removed from a January 26 match against the Ducks for an undisclosed medical reason. It was later revealed that he was taken to the hospital for observation with an elevated heart rate.
Gustavsson, who signed with Boston over the summer, has grabbed 15 games with the Bs, posting a 9-3-1 record with a .915 save percentage.
The team also recalled sophomore forward David Pastrnak from AHL Providence, where he was getting in some extra skating over the All-Star break.
