Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick broke the record for most career shutouts by a U.S.-born netminder after shutting out the Chicago Blackhawks in Monday’s 5-0 win.
Quick had to stop 32 ‘Hawks shots to get the shutout, outperforming Chicago’s Corey Crawford, who allowed five goals on 25 shots.
Quick entered play Monday tied with John Vanbiesbrouck (Detroit, Michigan) and Frank Brimsek (Eveleth, Minnesota) at 40 career shutouts. Quick (Milford, Connecticut) hits the mark in 462 career games. That’s fewer games than it took either Vanbiesbrouck (882 career games) or Brimsek (514 career games).
Quick’s nine playoff shutouts are currently tied with Mike Richter for the most postseason shutouts by an American goaltender.
Quick also sits well atop most Kings goaltending records. He’s the franchise’s all-time leader in wins (246), shutouts (41), minutes played (27,079), goals against average (2.26) and save percentage (.916).
