The Dallas Stars two-headed monster collapsed in Tuesday night’s loss to the Ottawa Senators, when Kari Lehtonen, playing in relief of Antti Niemi, exited the game with an injury
Despite limiting the Senators to just 20 shots, the Stars lost 7-4. Niemi started the game, but allowed three goals on his first nine shots. Lehtonen came in to relieve Niemi and allowed a goal in three shots through just 8:32 before getting injured.
Off a rush, defenseman John Klingberg was slung into Lehtonen hitting him in the head and putting some heavy pressure on his neck. Lehtonen stayed on his knees until the whistle blew and then exited the game, forcing Niemi back into the net, where he allowed a couple more goals before calling it a night.
Watch the collision below:
After the game the Stars didn’t off any update on Lehtonen’s status or what his injury may be. Lehtonen will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

Tf the Stars need to call up a netminder, it would have previously been assumed that it’s Jack Campbell, but of the three goaltenders who have seen regular net with AHL Texas, Campbell has been at the bottom of the heap, with a .877 save percentage through eight games.
Maxime Lagace leads the trio, which also features John Muse, with a .913 save percentage through seven games.
The Stars don’t play again until Friday when they take on the Vancouver Canucks.
