As the injury reports continue to trickle out from the Pittsburgh Penguins’ and San Jose Sharks’ locker rooms following Sunday’s 2015-16 season finale, it has been revealed that Pens defenseman Kris Letang had to “undergo the knife” prior to Game 1, according to TVA’s Renaud Lavoie.
The reason for the procedure was a foot infection.
Despite that, Letang averaged over 30 minutes per game during the Stanley Cup Final, and notched the game-winning goal in Game 6 (the third straight defenseman to score the Cup-winning goal).
In the series he put up a goal and four assists in six games, and put together three goals and 15 points through 23 postseason games in total. That was the second most points by a defenseman this postseason. He trailed only San Jose’s Brent Burns, who put up a whopping 24 points, the second most points ever scored by a defenseman in a losing postseason effort.
