Leafs & Islanders Talking About Parenteau: Report

The Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders seem to be talking about bringing one of John Tavares’ old linemates back to the Islanders. However, there might be something holding up the deal: the Leafs asking price. P.A. Parenteau has been one of the best performing players when it comes to the soon-to-be free agents. This has apparently led to the Leafs to ask for a second-round pick in return.

The Islanders are hesitant to move top picks or prospects, according to Darren Dreger.

If the Leafs manage to convince the Islanders to part with a second rounder, an issue arises that the Islanders have already traded away their second round pick in the 2016 Draft. So if the Leafs want a second round selection, they would have to settle for a 2017 pick or later. The Islanders might also be hesitant because of the neck issue that Parenteau is currently going through.

Parenteau had his two best NHL seasons when he was with the Islanders from 2010-11 to 2011-12. He registered 53- and 67-point seasons on Long Island, spending most of his time on John Tavares’ wing. It appears that if the Islanders  really want to reacquire him, they will have to pony up.
