The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed undrafted left wing Trevor Moore out of the University of Denver to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
This is generally pretty late in the summer to see a player with remaining college eligibility decide to turn pro. It’s no doubt a huge disappointment for Denver, who has now lost two-thirds of the dominant Pacific Rim line that helped the school land a birth in the 2016 Frozen Four, where they were defeated in the semifinals by the eventual champion North Dakota Fighting Hawks. Only incoming sophomore and 2016 San Jose Sharks draft pick Dylan Gambrell will be back for another season.

Last year, Moore scored 11 goals and 44 points in 40 games, tying a career-high in points, but falling short of the 22 goals he posted the prior season. He finishes out his three-year collegiate career as a nearly point-per-game player with 120 points in 121 games.
Picking up the California-native continues to help the Leafs build a young group of forwards in their quest for a complete rebuild. Moore is a nice addition, even if he may not be NHL ready coming out of camp. He’s been successful at the collegiate level and is still young at just 21.
