The Tampa Bay Lightning have inked new deals with two of their younger players – re-signing Cedric Paquette and J.T. Brown.
The 22-year-old Paquette has played the majority of the last two seasons with the Lightning (as well as two games in 2013-14) amassing 31 points (18g-13a) in 122 regular season games. While he hasn’t broken out offensively for the team yet in his young career, they obviously value what he brings to the rink.
According to TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie, the deal is a two-year deal that will see Paquette rake in $800,000 for the 2016-17 season and $825,000 in 2017-18.
Brown, 25, has been around a little bit longer than Paquette. In 198 regular season games for the Lightning, he’s scored 15 goals and 51 points. At 5-foot-10 and just 175 pounds, he is a smaller winger. But his speed and willingness to go to the net makes him an interesting player for the Lightning.
Brown’s contract is a two-year deal worth $2.5-million. He’ll become an unrestricted free agent after the 2017-18 season.
With Brown and Paquette now locked up for the next two seasons, Tampa Bay can turn their focus onto signing Nikita Kucherov, Alex Killorn and Vladislav Namestnikov who will become RFAs on July 1.
