Former New York Islanders defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky has signed a one-year contract with Slovan Bratislava in the KHL, according to Igor Eronko of Sport-Express.
Visnovsky was working toward finding a NHL gig over the summer, but was unable to find something that could stick. He took a tryout deal in training camp with the Chicago Blackhawks, but was ultimately cut from camp.
The 39-year-old veteran has spent the last three seasons with the Islanders and will join a Slovan team that at 8-2-3-0-2 needs to make up some points in the standings soon. He’ll join ex-NHLer Cam Barker on the blue line there.
Slovan also carries Barry Brust, who has been touted as the world’s most entertaining goalie.
A veteran of 883 games, Visnovsky has spent time with the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks and the Isles.
