The OHL named the Barrie Colts’ Mackenzie Blackwood the Goaltender of the Year on Friday.
The New Jersey Devils prospect played 43 games for the Colts with a 28-13-0-0 record, including three shutouts, a 2.72 goals-against average and a league leading .921 save percentage. That helped deliver the Colts their second straight Central Division Title.
“It is an honor to receive this award considering the amount of great goalies throughout the league,” Blackwood said in the league’s announcement. “I would like to thank my teammates who battled in front of me all year, my coaches for helping me develop into the player I am today, and the whole Barrie Colts organization for the great opportunities that they have allowed me to experience over the past three seasons.”
The 19-year-old played for Team Canada at the World Championship this year and skated for the OHL at the Super Series for the second straight year.
