Hyman was acquired on Friday from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Greg McKegg. Part of that trade involved a conditional 7th round draft pick going to the Maple Leafs, which was conditional on Hyman signing, so the Panthers will not give up a pick to the Leafs.
Hyman was hoping to make the leap from the University of Michigan to a shot at getting NHL time next season, which the Panthers weren’t willing to offer, forcing them to find a trade partner.
In addition, the Maple Leafs have signed defensemen Petter Granberg and Tim Erixon to one-year contracts. Chris Johnston reports that the Erixon deal is a one-way deal that will see him getting paid $600,000 and he notes that the Granberg deal is a two-way contract.
Granberg played seven games with the Leafs last season and Erixon played 15 games.
