The 18-year-old Dermott is one of 13 defensemen who was selected to participate in Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Development Camp, which begins in Calgary on July 29.
Last season, playing for the Eerie Otters, Dermott registered eight goals and 37 assists through 61 regular season games and led all OHL defensemen in points during the playoffs with five goals and 12 assists through 20 postseason contests.
Dermott isn’t likely to be playing for the Leafs next season. He’s likely back with the Eerie Otters, who will, in addition to changing GMs after the team was sold this summer, will be without Connor McDavid and Dylan Strome, who were selected #1 and #3 overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
