The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed restricted free agent defenseman Martin Marincin to a two-year, $2.5 million contract the team announced on Friday. The has a $1.25 million AAV and pays Marincin $1.2 million in 2016-17 and $1.3 million in 2017-18.

Marincin and Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie were the only two players left on the NHL’s arbitration hearing. Barrie’s hearing took place Friday while Marincin was set for Aug. 2.
Marincin, 24, skated in a career-high 65 games with the Maple Leafs during the 2015-16 season and registered one goal and seven points along with 34 penalty minutes. In 150 career NHL games, the 6’4″, 203-pound blueliner has tallied 18 points and 66 penalty minutes.
Marincin was acquired by the Maple Leafs from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Brad Ross and the 107th overall selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft on June 27, 2015.
The native of Slovakia was originally drafted by the Oilers with the 46th pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. During the 2014 Winter Olympics, Marincin was a member of Team Slovakia and registered four penalty minutes in four games.
With today’s announcement, the Maple Leafs will look for Marincin to play an increased role with the club during the 2016-17 season.
