According to multiple sources, the Calgary Flames will buyout forward Mason Raymond and the Nashville Predators will buyout left wing Eric Nystrom. Both have been placed on waivers Wednesday with the intention of a buyout officially coming Thursday.
Raymond got a nice three-year deal from the Flames after scoring 19 goals and 45 points with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2013-14 season, but the 30-year-old has failed to ignite for the Flames. Raymond scored only four goals in 29 games this past season, and spent some time with Stockton in the AHL.
The buyout will turn his $3.125 million cap hit next season into a $1.05 million cap hit over the next two seasons.
Nystrom had some impact in Nashville for a time, but clearly fell out of favor this season under new coach Peter Laviolette, finding himself watching some games from the press box, and playing just one of the team’s playoff contests. The 32-year-old Nystrom scored seven goals and no assists in 46 matches, for a career-low point total.
His $2.5 million cap hit and $3 million in actual cash will be greatly reduced. He’ll get $1.5 million over two years with his cap hit coming in at $500,000 in the first year and $1 million in the second year.
