The Colorado Avalanche have signed former Penguin forward Blake Comeau to a three-year contract, with Pierre LeBrun reporting that it’s worth an AAV of $2.4 million.

The 29-year old winger posted 16 goals and 15 assists through 61 games last season in Pittsburgh. That 31 points is the highest number he’s hit since the 2010-11 season where he posted 46 points for the New York Islanders.
The loss of Comeau and his 1.9 P/60 won’t kill the Penguins, but, even with the addition of the Phil Kessel, the Penguins remain a team in need of talent in their bottom six. They’ve got an incredible top six, but the bottom of their roster is lacking depth, particularly with the team shipping out Kasperi Kapanen in the Kessel deal.
Comeau has been a positive relative possession guy for six straight seasons, something the Avalanche will certainly benefit from. They’ve also lacked depth in their bottom six and lost a great defensive forward in the Ryan O’Reilly trade. Last season Comeau posted a score-adjusted CF%Rel of 1.2% after posting a 4.8% the year before with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
