The Montreal Canadiens have taken it to the Boston Bruins in the 2016 NHL Winter Classic from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.
The Habs have shown to be the better team on the ice this afternoon in every aspect of the game. The most important aspect, of course, is the scoreboard that is being dominated by Montreal. And though the first goal by David Desharnais was a beauty, nothing compares to the third goal of the game by the visitors.
The game may be being played in a football stadium, but it appears the Canadiens are playing baseball on New Year’s Day.
While putting pressure on Boston late in the second period, captain Max Pacioretty batted the puck out of the air towards the front of the net. Brendan Gallagher, who is playing in his first game back from injury, took a swing at the puck out of the air to put it in the back of the net.

All three goals for Montreal have come as a result of a batted puck. It’s more like the Montreal Expos than a NHL team. As of writing, the Canadiens lead the Bruins 3-0 after two periods of play.
There has never been a shutout in the Winter Classic, but Montreal is just 20 minutes away from pulling it off. And it’s on the road, no less.
