Toews, 22, has played college hockey at Quinnipiac University for the past three years and played a major role in the Bobcats’ run to the National Championship game this season.
Toews’ scouting report, courtesy of HockeysFuture.Com, is below…
Toews is a bit of a late bloomer and is a slightly undersized by NHL standards but plays bigger than his size. He has a great stick and uses positioning to keep opponents in check. Toews is still developing his overall game and is a character player. He provides play-making from the blue line and his offensive numbers in junior hockey suggest his production could increase as he matures at the NCAA level.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defender tallied 11 goals and 67 total points in 108 career games at Quinnipiac. He was a fourth-round selection (108th overall) selection of the Islanders in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
