New York Riveters Sign Two More to Inaugural Roster

Earlier today New York Riveters GM Dani Rylan announced the signing of two more players to their inaugural roster, Kiira Dosdall and Morgan Fritz-Ward.

Kiira Dosdall

Dosdall started becoming a household name during her time at Colgate. She had a fairly normal freshman year (2005-06) recording 1 goal and 7 assists in 32 games.

Dosdall started to heat up during her sophomore year. In 32 games she tallied 14 assists and had a team best rating of +16.  In three of those game she scored multiple points. At the end of the season Dosdall and the Colgate defense set the program record for fewest goals allowed in a season with 75, 40 of which were against league opponents. She was also named Colgate’s co-most valuable defensive player and was given a spot on the ECACHL All-Academic Team.

Due to Dosdall’s breakout sophomore season she was named assistant captain for the 2007-08 season. In 34 games, Dosdall led Colgate’s defenders with 5 goals and 12 assists. She also led the team in blocked shots with 19.  Dosdall was named to the third-team all-ECAC Hockey and ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team, as well as winning Colgate’s most valuable defensive player award for the second year in a row.

Senior year brought a captaincy and an appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge for Dosdall. In 36 games, she recorded 5 goals and 19 assists. Dosdall was also selected to the All-ECAC Second Team roster.

After college Dosdall would head to Austria to play for the Vienna Sabres for 4 seasons. According to the press release by NWHL earlier today Dosdall fared well overseas.

…she left for Austria to play for the Vienna Sabres, where she helped win four straight Austrian titles and three European League titles. Dosdall is the first player to be named to the EWHL All-Star team for four years in a row.

Dosdall’s ability to create plays and assist goals will come in handy with the other players the Riveters have signed, Janine Weber and Celeste Brown.

Currently Dosdall is teaching English and coaching hockey at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.

Morgan Fritz-Ward

Fritz-Ward quietly began playing at Quinnipiac in 2011-12. She wasn’t much to talk about but remained a strong presence on the ice.

Having worked hard after a slow start freshman year, Fritz-Ward was named most-improved player during the 2012-13 season. She went from having a one-goal freshman year to 2 goals and 5 assists sophomore year.

Junior year proved to be a better year for Fritz-Ward. She recorded 9 goals and 6 assists in 37 games, a far better showing than the previous years. Fritz-Ward also led the team in 31 blocked shots, was 3rd in game-winning goals (3), and 3rd most shots-on-goal (109).

At the end of a break-out junior year Fritz-Ward was named captain of the 2014-15 team. This was a great honor for Fritz-Ward as there were only 10 captains before her.

Senior year was the icing on the cake for Fritz-Ward. She had a career high of 19 points and led Quinnipiac to the 2015 NCAA Women’s Hockey Championship Quarterfinals.

Fritz-Ward is willing to sacrifice her body to score a goal. She has no problems pushing through the crowd to get the puck past the goalie. The Riveters will benefit from Fritz-Ward’s aggressiveness.
