Check out the more Recent Mock here…..
While the entry draft is still about four months away, you can be assured NHL scouting teams across North America and the world are soaking up as many games as possible, assessing talent.
The Hockey Spy here at THW is also busy scouting the prospect world and will continue to bring detailed prospect profiles in the coming months leading up to the draft.
Today’s article embarks on my first mock draft of the season – Olympic edition.
Notes:
*At this point in the season, the mock is based upon teams taking best player available (BPA), and the draft positions are simply based on recent standings.
*The draft order is based upon overall standings as of February 10th, without taking into consideration playoff seedings.
*The table is “sortable” – that is, if you click on any of the headings it will sort them. For instance, if you want to search by youngest/oldest of the potential 1st rounders, simply click on “DOB” column.
*For detailed prospect profiles completed thus far, click on hyper-linked player’s name. (Thus far, Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin have profiles with many more to follow.)
*THW = The Hockey Writers = my rankings
*Just under the title, you can click “Show” and change the quantity you show on one page or you can simply click on bottom right hand corner of table to scroll through the rankings/mock draft.

What’s the deal? Minnesota has the 9th pick, not the 11th.
That’s an older list Adam – check out the updated one here…

Mike nailed it.
I will, of course, have Boston drafting 15th in upcoming mock(s).
The disclaimer on my Feb & April mocks both stated that draft position based on current standings.
Yes – I noticed theirs say they’ll be updated after the playoffs. Before Montreal/Philly made the conference finals, Boston would’ve been 17.
you have Boston picking at no.10 …..I think this is wrong the BRUINS will pick at no.15
Richard (is this Rick the old Centennial goalie from Montreal?)…
I just checked 4 lists and found Boston in three different spots (15,17,23) ?? weird.
We’ll get to the bottom of it quickly.
It’s a bit confusing, but here’s how draft order is determined…
A composite of all Member Clubs shall be prepared by placing:
1. First the Clubs which failed to qualify for the next preceding playoffs in the order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest points total and followed by the Club having the next lowest points total, and so forth.
2. The Clubs which participated in the next preceding playoffs (but had not been ranked first in their respective Divisions and did not make the Conference Finals) in order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the next preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest total points and followed by the Club having the next lowest total points, and so forth.
3. The Clubs which had been ranked first in their Divisions during the next preceding season (but had not made the Conference Finals ) in the order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the next preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest total points and followed by the Club having the next lowest total points, and so forth.
4. The Clubs who lose in the Conference Finals in the order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the next preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest total points and followed by the Club having the next lowest total points.
5. The Club which loses in the Finals shall select next to last.
6. The Stanley Cup winner shall select last, thus, positioning all Clubs on the list.
~ When it’s all said and done, Boston will have the #15 pick.
I had linked to an early Mock that Chris did back in Feb. The link will fixed up right now and Chris will have all of his updates done shortly. NHL.com shows Bruins picking 17th? (perhaps they are older Mocks as well)
i dont think the coyotes need another goalie prospect…with all due respect
Cam Fowler profile up…
https://test.thehockeywriters.com/2010-nhl-entry-draft-prospect-cam-fowler/
It sucks for the Oilers. This year’s draft is chalked full of undersized top 6 forwards; precisely something they don’t need.
If I’m Tambellini I am not above trading this pick. Getting a top 6 forward, a depth dman and a 1st rounder back would seal the deal.
I like the Kabanov pick for St. Louis, especially since the three guys I have ranked ahead of him are the three picks you made immediately before St. Louis’ pick…
Nick Bjugstad or Riley Sheahan seem to be more in line with St. Louis’ draft tendencies, however. They like to pick Americans, and to pick guys ahead of where “conventional wisdom says they should go, so we’ll see.
I hear what you’re saying iRandy.
Any realistic preferences on who you’d like to get if Blue Jackets did draft 3rd?
Fowler would be a fantastic building block to the young potential core they already have. Stay tuned for detailed profile on Cam.
I can see Columbus picking third after yesterday’s fire sale. This is not the worst thing that could happen to the franchise though. Clearly, they weren’t contenders with this year’s roster, so hopefully CBJ management will choose wisely this summer.
I have a funny feeling that they risk losing even the hardcore fan if they can’t ice a winner next season. Until then, bet “under”!
