NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Rankings Combined

by Eldon MacDonald (edited by @ChrisRalphTHW)

Every year NHL Central Scouting produces a segregated set of rankings at mid-season as well as their final rankings. Four lists are produced in total as linked below:

These lists make the job easier for Central Scouting but they are limited in terms of where a respective prospect ranks across the lists. Therefore, each year I combine the four lists into one to obtain a better understanding of where Central Scouting is ranking the players overall. The four rankings were combined in THW’s NHL Draft War Room by employing the following methods:

  • Rounds One: Goalies and European Skaters were inserted based upon the average rankings of four of the ranking agencies.
  • Round Two: For round two, seven European skaters and one goalie were placed  to mirror the results from the 2015 draft. 2016 doesn’t look like a good year for goalies either although I believe at least two could be selected in round two in June.
  • Rounds Three and Up: For the remaining rounds, 6 to 7 European skaters and 3 to 4 goalies were placed per round based on the results of the 2015 draft.

The Rankings Spreadsheet Tabs

The rankings for NHL Central Scouting are presented in the following formats on the accompanying spreadsheet.

  • Tab 1 – Sorted by NHL Central Scouting Combined Midterm Rankings
    • Column 2 is THW’s War Room January ranking
    • Column 3 is THW’s War Room November ranking
  • Tab 2 – Sorted by THW’s War Room January 2016 Rankings (E-Mac)

Most prospects are also linked to their elite prospects profile as well.

Notes

  • Only a portion of the table displays by default; you can scroll over to see the rest of the player demographics and statistics or select View full-size workbook option, which is the icon in the bottom right hand corner, to view the full table.
  • The beauty of the above option is that you can then download the file to your computer and play with it or adjust it anyway you like.
  • The spreadsheet is searchable; simply click on the spreadsheet and utilize CTRL/Command “F”
  • The stats provided are from last season for comparative purposes. For updated stats, click on the players name.
