Latest Rumors:
Drouin Watch:
- The Lightning’s top priority right now is to trade Drouin, though the market isn’t giving them what they want.
He (Steve Yzerman) tried to get a roster player from several of the 15 teams that were interested and when that didn’t work the belief is he’s now trying to get high end prospects in return for Drouin…
Rest of the League:
- Contract talks between the St. Louis Blues and captain David Backes are infrequent after a rejected offer.
“The least likely scenario would be to trade him because we’re trying to win. A first-round pick does us no good when we’re going to this year’s playoffs. I think we’re going to be a good team and he’s a big part of being a good team. He’s our captain, he’s our leader.”
- Andrew Ladd can’t envision himself with another team.
“It’s hard for me to see that,” he told the assembled media. “But I’ve also been around long enough to realize that anything can happen and things change quickly. You never know.”
- Speaking of Ladd, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun thinks the Florida Panthers could be a fit.
If there’s one team that I feel is an amazing fit for Andrew Ladd, it’s Florida, in my opinion. I don’t know if the Panthers can swing it. And again, we don’t even know if the Jets are willing to move him yet, either. But if the time comes where Andrew Ladd is on the market, Dale Tallon has a history with Ladd in Chicago. I just feel like that would be a tremendous fit.
- Steven Stamkos wouldn’t confirm or deny the reported contract offer that was made to him.
“I’m not going to comment on that,” Stamkos said Sunday at the Lightning’s family carnival at Amalie Arena. “We haven’t talked about that stuff in the media all season long, and I don’t know how they get a hold of stuff like that. All the things that we’ve talked about, it’s staying internally, and it’ll continue to be that way.”
- The Dallas Stars are still keeping an eye on the Maple Leafs regarding a potential trade for a defenseman.
Stars GM Jim Nill is looking to upgrade his blueline by the Feb. 29 trade deadline, and the Stars have been linked to Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf in the past.
