Last season, Nick Sörensen was on the wrong end of a devastating knee-on-knee collision courtesy of Baie-Comeau Drakkar’s Jonathan Lessard (video here). Sörensen’s promising start to his rookie season was ended, and the healing process began.
There was a time when three Quebec Remparts (Adam Erne, Anthony Duclair, and Nick Sörensen) were being mentioned to go in the first round, but this year has been both a step forward and a step backward for the talented Dane. While he made his triumphant return to the lineup this year and was able to score a point-per-game pace, his name started to drop in the rankings while others continued to rise.
It can be said the injury may have had something to do with his production – which was slated to be higher than what he put out this season. However, he did play well enough to join fellow Remparts Erne and Duclair in the CHL Top Prospects game.
What sets Sörensen apart from the other skaters in the draft is his quickness, agility, and foot speed. He can blow past defenders easily and use his nifty stick skills to creating scoring chances. He certainly has the scoring touch, but at times he gets out of position.
The Remparts forward is great on both sides of the puck and is keen defensively. He has a tireless work ethic that can be noticed every shift. He’s still a bit scrawny for his size, but he should be able to bulk up in due time.
Still a very raw talent, Sörensen has the offensive ability to standout in the NHL if his game translates from the QMJHL to the pros.
Where Will He End Up In June:
All signs point to him being selected in the mid-2nd round anywhere between 40th-50th overall.
Scout’s Honor:
“Sorensen displays good puck skills that are augmented by his heady play in all three zones. His complete level also compliments his strong skating stride.”
Aaron Vickers – Future Considerations
“His skating amongst the best in the game, and his foot-speed keeps was likely a big factor in him playing in this game. Sorensen competes hard for having a slight frame and I certainly believe he has the potential to develop into a player capable of playing heavy minutes on the PK at the pro level. I’m rooting for Sorensen to show more offensively, because the potential is certainly there, he didn’t show any real creativity in the Top Prospects Game.”
