Nick Spaling Close to Signing in Switzerland: Report

Former San Jose Sharks forward Nick Spaling is close to signing a deal with Genève-Servette in Switzerland’s NLA, according to a report in the Swiss Neue Zürcher Zeitung.

The report says that the deal is all but done, and there are just a few formalities to work out.

Spaling finished last season with the San Jose Sharks, after being moved from the Toronto Maple Leafs near the trade deadline. He saw good ice time during the team’s run to the Stanley Cup Final, though he only added one assist through 24 postseason contests.

In the regular season, split between the two franchises, he put up three goals and 10 assists in 58 games. It was a surprisingly dry season for the 27-year-old forward who, just two seasons prior, had contributed to the Nashville Predators, offering solid secondary scoring on a depth line. That season he scored 13 goals and 32 points in Music City.

Since being drafted 58th overall in 2007 by Nashville, he’s spent time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Maple Leafs and Sharks.
