The Edmonton Oilers are filling up the back end of their roster signing defenceman David Musil to a one-year deal, according to the team’s Twitter.
For those who don’t know much about the 23-year-old defenceman, Musil stands at six-foot-four and just over 200 pounds. He played four games with the Oilers in 2014-15 recording two assists and a minus-two rating with three shots to go along with it.
Originally a second round pick of the Oilers in the 2011 NHL Draft (31st overall), Musil hasn’t quite developed into the blue liner Edmonton’s needed so far in his young career.
Canadian born, Musil was raised in the Czech Republic and represents the latter when it comes to international play. He’s represented Czech Republic four times at the international level, including two World Junior Under-18 tournaments (2009 and 2011) and two World Junior Championships (2012 and 2013).
Both his father (Frank) and his uncle (Bobby Holik) spent time in the NHL and his brother (Adam) was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft (94th overall).
Musil spent the 2015-16 season with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors playing in 67 games and recording 14 points (3g-11a) to go along with 39 penalty minutes. While he hasn’t played much at the NHL level so far, the Oilers will look for him to take the next step with this one-year deal.
