While details on Price’s injury were previously unreleased, the team specified exactly what the ailment is after announcing that he was done for the season.
Now that Carey Price’s season has officially ended, here is a detailed description of his injury: Carey sustained a medial collateral ligament injury (MCL sprain) to his right knee on November 25th, 2015 in a game against the NY Rangers.
All indications leading up to today’s announcement pointed to an attempted return. However, Price never reached a point where he could play and at this point in the season, there’s no reason to try to push him back into the lineup for their final two games.
Per ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun, Price is still expected to play for Team Canada in the upcoming World Cup of Hockey.
GM D. Armstrong: “We named Carey with the understanding he will be 100% come the World Cup, nothing has changed in that thought process.''

The team also announced that P.K. Subban would not return this season due to a neck injury suffered when Alexei Emelin awkwardly collided with his head during play on Mar. 10.
The Canadiens, after starting the 2015-16 season with a 9-0-0 record, fell into a downward spiral following Price’s injury and currently sit in seventh place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 36-38-6.
Price played 12 games, recording a .934 save-percentage and 1.96 goals-against average to accompany his 10-2-0 record. Subban played in 68 games this season, recording six goals and 51 total points.
