Patrick Kane’s historical season continued on Sunday evening when the Chicago Blackhawks’ superstar broke the record for the longest point streak in franchise history.
Chicago’s 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets marked the 22nd straight game in which Kane has recorded a point, breaking the record of the legendary Bobby Hull. The record broke via an assist on Artemi Panarin’s empty-net goal with 1:46 remaining in the game. Sure, it wasn’t the most exciting way to break the record, but a point is a point.
Kane is still a ways off from catching the record of 51 straight games with a point held by Wayne Gretzky. But to hold a record for a franchise as historic as the Blackhawks is still an impressive feat.
The 27-year old Kane now has 42 points — 16 goals, 26 assists — on the year. That total is good for first in the NHL ahead of Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, both teammates on the Dallas Stars, point total of 35.
Kane is on pace to finish with absurd numbers for today’s NHL. As of Sunday night, he’s projected to finish with 50 goals and 79 assists for 129 points. That’s more than 40 points above last year’s Art Ross winner Benn who finished with 87.
It’s unlikely he keeps up that pace, but with how he’s playing, he just may?
