As the investigation into the rape allegations against Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane continues by police in Hamburg, NY, one of the biggest partners of Kane has cut ties with the former Conn Smythe Trophy winner.
In a statement released on Wednesday, EA Sports has announced that Kane will be removed from the cover of NHL 16 which is set to release on September 15 in North America. In addition, Kane will no longer be a spokesperson for the upcoming game.
From EA Sports:
In light of the ongoing investigation involving Patrick Kane, he will no longer be a spokesperson for the launch of EA SPORTS NHL 16. He will not appear on the EA SPORTS NHL 16 cover nor participate in other EA SPORTS NHL 16 promotional activities.
Kane was slated to be part of the first cover to include not only two players at once, but also with the Stanley Cup Trophy. Instead, Blackhawks captain Jonathon Toews will be the sole player to grace the cover of this year’s game.
Kane is currently being investigated for an incident that allegedly occurred at his Hamburg home earlier in August involving a young woman in her 20s. Authorities are currently waiting for all the forensic evidence to be returned before deciding whether or not charges should be filed.
As of now, Kane has not been charged by police for any wrongdoing.
