The 30-year old Porter was a frequent call-up for the Penguins this past season as the team battled through injuries. He was primarily used in a fourth line capacity while also playing a large role on Pittsburgh’s penalty-killing units.
Porter recorded three assists at the NHL level, while also scoring five goals and nine total points through 15 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Porter suffered an ankle injury that ended his 2015-16 campaign on March 3. The initial recovery time following surgery was 12 weeks, so barring any setbacks, there’s little reason to believe it will impact his offseason regimen or training camp.
A 2004 fourth-round selection of the Phoenix Coyotes (119th overall), Porter has played 247 games at the NHL level with Phoenix, the Colorado Avalanche, the Buffalo Sabres and the Penguins. In that span, he has 29 goals and 58 total points.
