Predators Give Mike Fisher Two-Year Extension

The Nashville Predators have agreed to a two-year contract extension with forward Mike Fisher.

The deal is worth $8.8 million, paying him $4.8 million in the first year and $4 million in the second.

The 35-year-old forward is coming off a two-year deal with an AAV of $4.2 million. He started the season off the roster with a ruptured Achilles, but was effective once he got back into the lineup, scoring 19 goals and 20 assists through 59 games.

Over the two years of that contract, Fisher posted a 2.0 P/60 at even strength in both seasons, the highest mark he’d hit since the 2006-07 season when he also hit 2.0. His production has been worth the contract, though he’s been a negative possession player relative to teammates in six of the last seven seasons.

This contract locks up one of Nashville’s six UFA players this summer, which includes Matt Cullen (who is unlikely to return), Mike Santorelli, Mike Ribeiro (whose alleged sexual assault case should give teams some pause, though Nashville is publicly supporting him and has offered him a deal), Cody Franson, and Anton Volchenkov.
