The New York Rangers have signed free agent forward Malte Stromwall, the team announced Sunday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 21-year-old Swedish forward played two seasons of major junior with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL before heading back to Sweden, where he’s played professionally for the last three seasons. In the first two of those he saw some time at Sweden’s top level, but spent the entirety of the 2015-16 season playing with IAK in Allsvenskan.

With AIK he rediscovered his offensive touch, putting up 25 goals and 42 points in 49 games. He had a couple of down years bouncing between leagues, after putting up 66 points (21-45-66) in 66 games at 18 for the Americans in the WHL.
Stromwall’s 25 goals with AIK ranked second in the league, and he was tops in goals and points among U23 players.
He helped AIK skate to a championship, playing alongside Rangers prospect Robin Kovacs.
Stromwall, 21, skated in 49 games with AIK of Allsvenskan in Sweden this season, registering 25 goals and 17 assists for 42 points. #NYR
